The rules of ReBirth are designed for an intermediate to advanced group of players, but understanding new players willing to try new things are, of course, welcome as well.
If at all possible, I'm going to avoid putting any but the above limits on your characters, and hope your own discretion and better judgment will make this a fun and fair place for people to come and play.
I. No godplaying, godmoding, powerplaying, et cetera. This means that your character is in one place at one time (you can be in more than one thread at a time per character, but the threads must have a timeline- for example, Thread A happens BEFORE the events of Thread B, even though they are being roleplayed concurrently), they cannot decide whether they have affected another character physically and/or emotionally without that player's permission (for instance, use this: "He slid the mask from his face, struggling to suppress his laughter at the thought of her surprise" instead of: "He slid the mask from his face, smirking at her surprise". One means that he's merely hoping she's shocked, while the other is deciding for the female character and saying she is surprised when perhaps her player doesn't want her to be), and death can only come at the agreement of both players. Play wisely.
II. Don't be a jerk. Respect each other. Racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise intolerant OOC behaviour will not be tolerated and are grounds for expulsion from the site. Unintentional/borderline intolerance will incur a warning- disregard for this warning will mean a six month suspension. This suspension is your second warning. Anything further will get you permanently banned. Specifically targeting another player on this site with such behaviour will get you banned. (Having a character whose personality or morals make them homophobic/racist/sexist or the like is not the same, and will not incur warnings or suspension.)
III. Don't steal art. Please don't use photos of real people for your characters, unless they are stock images, in which case, follow the rules of the stock provider. Do not use another artist's work without their typed or written permission that you could show us if asked. If using a template not from this site, please follow the rules of the template artist (usually they just ask that you provide a link to their gallery and give them credit for the art- no big deal, right?). If you have art done specifically for you- a gift or commission, etc.- you do not need to provide a link or credit. If you are using official art from an animated movie, TV show, comic book, manga, anime, etc., you do not need to provide credit. FANART of a show/movie/whatever STILL REQUIRES ARTIST PERMISSION. You aren't required to have a picture of your character. If you can't find one and nobody's willing to colour a template for you or do a sketch, it's totally cool to just not have a picture of them.
IV. OOC arguing isn't cool, but is sometimes unavoidable. This doesn't mean I'll allow childish displays of how many curse words you know. It does mean that if you and another player have a problem, you can talk it out on the OOC board, but do be civil about it. Respect each other. I understand that blood will boil sometimes, but if it really gets to be that much of a problem, PM me or a mod and I/they will help you resolve the conflict. If it's a matter of godplaying, godmoding, powerplaying, whatever, gently explain to the other player what they did wrong and request that they fix it. If they are unwilling, PM me with a link to the thread page, the player's name, and a summary of the situation and I'll handle it.
V. Take pride in your in-character posts- don't use chat-speak, maybe do a quick check for grammar and spelling errors before posting, use punctuation and capitalization, etc. Nobody's grading you, and mistakes happen- that's totally okay. But try to think of each post as a work of art- this is your imprint on this forum, your contribution to the story unfolding here. Make it a beautiful one.
VI. You are not required to have one account per character, but you're welcome to do so if you wish. You ARE required to have a main/OOC account (which you are welcome to have be your ONLY account and post in-character with, as well). (For anyone who likes the idea of character accounts but dislikes the idea of signing out and back in for every post, Proboards has recently made it considerably easier to do this- the quickbar at the bottom right of the screen has a 'Switch Account' option, allowing you to quickly change to the account you want.) To use the quickbar account-switch option, please be sure to register each new account under the same email- this will allow Proboards to know WHICH accounts are yours!
